The Green City!
Can you imagine Earth without Trees?
13 million hectares of trees (forest) have been cleared for other uses or by natural disaster. By the year 2030, we might only have 10% of our forests left and if we don’t stop cutting down trees, they could all be gone in 100 years. To address this problem LEADer Santosh from RYMEC College, Ballari took an initiative of planting saplings under the name Project Green City.
Firstly he approached his college and got rejected. He did not stop or neither rested. He went out in public for plantations but many problems arose. Primarily, who is going to water them and protect them as it is a public place? People did not support the Idea and started to oppose. He then again went to the college authorities and after a lot of requests, The College gave support to them.
He and his team have successfully planted 50 – 60 plants in there college campus itself which was the way to ensure that plants are safe. He choose plants which require less water for growth and continued with plantation.
With the support of college and a funding of ₹ 500 from LEAD he completed the whole plantation. The plants require less water and a sufficient amount of water is being provided by the RYMEC engineering college. Thrice in a month or once in a week they are watered.
This project is helping a lot of students by providing them with a garden and shade. A lot 0f people sit under the shade and spend time. This project also bring a sense of responsibility among the citizens to look at the bigger picture and save trees.
