The man behind India’s IT Bloom- Narayana Murthy
Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, preeminent person well known as Narayana Murthy, an Indian IT Industrialist and the co-founder of Infosys, is born on 20th August 1946 at Shidlaghatta, Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka. Completing his graduation at National Institute of Engineering in 1967 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, sir received his master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. With a huge ocean of knowledge and incredible skills, this eminent person with six of other software professionals endowed Infosys in 1981 that now has empire stretching from Bengaluru to Boston. Serving as the CEO of Infosys for 21 years from 1981 to 2002 was promoted as chairman of the board and Chief Mentor for five years. During his tenure, the company not only saw exponential growth but also sparkled an outsourcing revolution worldwide. He retired from the company, pursuing a legendary title Chairman Emeritus.
As Mr. Murthy says “Performance leads to recognition. Recognition brings respect. Respect enhances power. Humility and grace in one’s moments of power enhance the dignity of an organization”, he proves it from the base to the tip of a mountain.
Before he endowed Infosys, Mr. Murthy served as Research Associate at IIM Ahmedabad and later on as chief systems programmer. Hejoined Patni Computers in Pune after the collapse of a company named Softronics endowed by himself. In his journey of career, he also served as trustee and a member of advisory board and council of several educational and philanthropic institutions, including Cornell University, INSEAD, ESSEC, Ford Foundation to least out a few.
After great success so long, he returned to Infosys in the year 2013 as Executive Chairman and Additional Director as Director of the board to strengthen the company. On 12 June 2014 Sir stepped down as chairman and continued as Non-Executive chairman until October 10. In addition to all these efforts and great successfulness, sir assist on the strategic board which advises the national law firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, on strategic, policy and governance issues.
Sudha Murthy, his consort, also does the philanthropic work through the Infosys Foundation. Legends in India are recognized with pride and for a person to achieve success in life, all is to be done is smart work. And for the smart work of this legend person, he is honored with almost 14 noble awards among which the most exquisite and cardinal awards are Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri. Mr. Murthy has been itemized among the 12 greatest entrepreneurs by Fortune magazine. And evoked as the “father of the Indian IT sector” by Time magazine for the outsourcing contribution of notorious Mr. Murthy. He also receives the debut for the book named “A Better India: A Better World”, is a collection of well arranged 38 speeches on different occasions.
