LEAD Prayana 2019 – Day 09
We stay in a culture where we don’t forget our roots and peers. Unexpected death of Narayan Reddy did not stop Prayanees from visiting his land. The 9th morning of Prayana started from Muddenhalli to Dr. Narayan Reddy’s farm. Late Dr. L Narayana Reddy, a visionary in organic farming, was enthusiastic and an experimental farmer. He always advised the LEADers to innovate and to learn. He was a role model for organic farmers for more than two decades. Dr. Reddy was one of the role models for LEAD Prayana since beginning. To give tribute, Prayanees of 2019 visited his beautiful farm. Mr. Abhinandan Kavale, Dr. Chetan Upadhaye, and Veeresh Badiger shared a few memories of him and requested his son, Mr. Sairam Reddy to continue his legacy. A token of appreciation and love was given to Dr. Narayana Reddy.
After paying tribute to Dr. Narayana Reddy, Prayanees traveled to Vishaal Natural Food Products. They are one of the leading companies which export many processed vegetables from India. Vishaal has been in this business of growing, processing and exporting of Gherkins from the year 1998. Apart from gherkins, the company processes baby corn, jalapenos and various types of chilies. This company believes in the concept that quality starts from the field. Mr. P. S. Madhusudhan, founder and M. D. of Vishaal Farms addresed Prayanees about their initiatives in the farm. He also told that, tomatoes grown in his farms are exported to famous food restaurants such as MCdonalds of south Karnataka. He provided Prayanees with tastiest food and gave a tour of his farm. The Prayanees helped on the farm in planting tomato seedlings, packaging vegetables for shipment, and visiting the manufacturing factory. Prayanees enjoyed the rest of the evening by enjoying the tractor ride and with some activities. Prayanees helped in the farm to pack the products. They had snacks and left from the farm.
After the long and tiring day of working on the farm, the Prayanees headed back to the VTU hostel for a good night’s rest. They packed their belongings and prepared themselves for another early journey to Kuppam.
