Career Guidance – Guiding the right path
What is the real success for you? According to me the success means having the courage, the determination and will to become the person dream to be. And it is true that doubts kills more dreams than failures do. It is rightly said “True guidance is like a small torch in a dark forest. It doesn’t show everything once but gives enough light for the next step to be safe” Swami Vivekananda. Youth constitutes one fifth of the Indian population. Most of the youth fail to achieve success of greater heights in spite of huge potentials, due to inadequate guidance. Most of these cases are found valid in the villages as the students lack the exposure to the real world.
68.84% of Indian population is from village. Most of the people leave here are farmers and are unaware of the appropriate career options which they can provide for their children after the completion of standard 10th. So Leader Nilima Shantayya Jangam, the student of KLE Dr. M. S. Sheshgiri College of engineering and technology, Belagavi took this project to help the students to choose their career wisely. Leader Nilima joined LEAD through social media internship as a blogger in the year 2016. While writing the stories of projects she always thought of contributing for the betterment of society. She was inspired to take initiatives for the development of society.
Growing up in village, Nilima did not receive any right guidance for her career. She thought this should not happen with the other students. She started her project of Career Guidance to the students of standard 10 and continued it for two years. She visited schools of 15 villages around Belagavi and was successful in guiding 1450 students so far. Great career without good education and proper planning is only a dream. Leader Nilima helped the students to realize their dreams. Because the future of the students depends on the decision they do after completing standard 10th.
She prepared the PPT through which she explained the students about all the options they had after the completion of the school. After every session there was a question answer time where students asked all their doubts they had regarding the career options. She also made students aware about the Vidhya helpline which helps students to decide their career options. “Seeing the changes their eyes, from doubtful eyes to confident one would always increase my energy” says Leader Nilima.
Difficulties come in everybody’s path. Handling the students, solving their queries, approaching and convincing the school staff was difficult sometimes for our Leader. But true leadership quality is guiding others to the success. Empathy, convincing techniques, stage courage, team handling and ability to manage things in all situation is what Nilima learnt in the 2 years of her project. This was a great initiative to help the students and we congratulate Leader Nilima for the successful completion of this project.
