LEAD Celebrates It’s 11th Anniversary on Independence Day..!!
Founded in 2007 by Mr. Gururaj. Deshpande, The Deshpande Foundation in Hubli was created with the belief that entrepreneurship, innovation, and local grassroots efforts could sustainably transform Northwest Karnataka. Since 2007, the Deshpande Foundation has developed a variety of programs to cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial leaders. One such program is the LEADers Accelerating Development (LEAD) Program.
LEAD’s evolution could be traced backwards towards Mr. Naveen. Jha, who then joined Deshpande Foundation in 2007 as a Programs Officer. There was a motive of not to merely solve a problem but to build an ecosystem that enables ideas and entrepreneurship to complement each other for a large impact among the college youth. This motive evolved as an Idea and this idea became LEAD program as you know today.
The inception of LEAD happened when Naveen Jha heard the ideas of a few students, who wanted to make a positive impact in the society. There were about 80 active students who came up with creative ideas for the development of the community. Named as “Colors of Youth”, they brainstormed and implemented few innovative projects such as making fuel from biomass, promoting open source software, setting up a viable traffic control system etc. With the success of “Colors of Youth”, the number of young students increased, a need for separate program was felt. Hence on Aug. 15, 2008, LEAD was founded by Mr. Naveen. Jha
On 15th August 2008, Independence Day, LEAD was officially launched under Deshpande Foundation, Hubli. Equipped with real-life applications and training, LEAD gives students a platform to practice hands-on learning, innovative thinking, team formation and management, idea implementation, understand communities, and networking. The Deshpande Foundation supports student ’s ideas financially and logistically to turn them into impactful projects.
“Complaints… Start with THEY, Solutions… Start with I”
LEaders Accelerating Development (LEAD)
This is a phrase associated with a significant meaning, it speaks about the action-oriented thought process and impact-driven solutions by every individual LEADer. At the grass-root level, the phrase marks the significance of an initiative and that is the major reason because of which, this phrase is the tagline of the LEAD program.
Every LEADer can see a unique local issue in the society and find a solution to it and every local issue is a part of a major problem of the society. In a similar way, instead of solving problems directly, LEAD focuses on turning every college student into a problem solver at the grass-root level, these young LEADers will work their way up the pyramid solving minor chunks of the issue which in-turn will collectively solve the major problem of the society.
LEAD has turned into a sustainable interconnect hub of young LEADers and change makers who house the unique ability to utilize the hub, its networks and resources to build a better India and ultimately a better society! LEAD has grown to reach and support 37701 LEADers, 20640 leadership projects, and 34 location. The program has expanded to major parts of KARNATAKA : Hubballi-Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Davangere, Belagavi, Kalaburgi, Vijayapura, Uttar Kannada; TELANGANA : Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal, Nizamabad; MAHARASHTRA : Pune, Kolhapur, Medak, Sangli; UTTAR PRADESH : Varanasi, Lucknow; ANDHRA PRADESH : Vizianagaram and Vizag.
